This may seem pretty obvious to some but its a realization that I had the other day. There are stars all over the sky. They are up there twinkling and shining.
We think they look pretty cool. If we were to ever get pretty close to them I’d guess we’d be either in awe or almost taken back by the amount of chaos and burning that goes on to shine so brightly.
While it may be a bit of a stretch this is something that took me a while to learn in my personal life. There are “stars” in my life that I’d put on a pedestal. They would be people like successful businessmen or people who just had it together.
I have had the opportunity to meet one billionaire as well as a few people worth tens of millions of dollars. You know what I realized?
They aren’t all that different from me. They still have problems or issues just like I do. Clearly they’ve had success but it may just have been in one area of life.
For the longest time, I was just a spectator. I thought they were stars just shining brightly and it was something I couldn’t do. When I got close I realized that it took a took of burning (i.e working, patience, discipline, etc) to actually shine so brightly.
If you are out there and you are doing all the work to burn and just quite aren’t shining, stick with it. The three recipes I’ve found for success are:
- Hard Work
- Discipline
- Patience
- Getting better every day
If you have enough of those and mix in a little bit of luck (trust me, it will happen with enough patience) you’ll have all the success you could ever want.
I’ve seen several examples of it throughout my career. People that don’t turn into what they want just don’t have enough of these.
The problem with success is that it just takes so damn long. Find a path you could stay on for 30 years and just stay on it for 30 years.
